That’s the name his owner, Dr. Joyce Kimble [Kimble Cattle Company] of Karnes City, Texas, gave this magnificent Texas Longhorn – and that is what everybody exclaims when they see this magnificent animal [7 times world champion] with a span of the horns [tip to tip] of 104 inches and a total length of the horns of 124 inches.
Dr. Joyce Kimble, a wonderful and gracious woman and a living encyclopedia about longhorns, took us [my German friends and me] on an extended tour around their property to show us their longhorns. And she was really tireless in telling us about the breed from her rich encyclopedic knowledge about that kind of cattle. We thorougly enjoyed that afternoon: Thank you, Dr. Joyce!

Es gab mal auch ein Urtier, eine Art Hirsch, mit Schaufeln, von einem Ende zum anderen 3 m, mit dem Körper eines Hirschen wohlgemerkt.

We even touched and fed that guy. He was ever so friendly and gentle – believe it or not. Unfortunately he is no longer with us. But the Kimbles are building a Wow museum in Karnes City. I need to visit with them again.
The only problem when you’re close to them: the tips of the horns move with an incredible speed when they shake their heads. And they don’t look out for you. Dr. Joyce’s husband once had his cheek torn open that much that they had to put 48! stitches in.

Hallo Dina,
was für ein Wortspiel, „steer clear of a steer“! 😉 Die sind übrigens extrem friedlich. Wir haben Wow gestreichelt und gefüttert: kein Problem. Man muss sich allerdings in Acht nehmen, wenn er seinen Kopf bewegt, z.B. um Fliegen zu verjagen. Er weiss dann natürlich nicht, wer seinen Hörnern vielleicht im Weg steht. Und die Spitzen bewegen sich mit einer erheblichen Geschwindigkeit. Der Mann der Besitzerin, absolut erfahren im Umgang mit diesen Tieren, hat das schmerzlich erfahren müssen, als ihm so die Wange aufgerissen worden ist und das mit 48! Stichen genäht werden musste.
