Rückreise [1]: wieder in Dover
Wir sind wieder in Dover im Hafen und warten treu und brav in der uns zugewiesenen Spur darauf, dass das Einschiffen losgehen kann. Im Gegensatz zur Hinfahrt, auf der wir, wegen eines Megastaus auf dem Brüsseler Ring Calais nur mit großer Verspätung erreicht hatten, waren wir dieses Mal nicht nur pünktlich, sondern sogar zu früh – sodass wir auf eine frühere Fähre [12:40 statt 01:25] konnten.
Zur Fahrt von Abbots Salford nach Dover hier ein Auszug aus Mary’s Reisetagebuch:
„08:14 leaving S.H. [= Salford Hall Hotel]; beautiful sunny day; hardly a cloud in the sky; we head toward Warwick for the M40; A46 to M40; we hit the M40 just out of Warwick; now, we’re headed toward Oxford + London; sky is beautiful blue with a few puffy clouds around; at S.H. this morn, Pit had full English breakfast; I had scrambled eggs, ham, bacon, toast, orange juice, and chocolate croissant; 09:43 we hit the M25 Heathrow jam; 10:30 we leave the M25 at Clacket Lane for personal services; getting back in thecar Pit comments, ‚driving a German car in England wearing a TX hat is quite sensational‘; 10:45 we see first sign for M26 and Channel Tunnel; 10:46 we’re on M26 heading for M20; sky is gradually becoming more cloudy, but sun is still bright and it’s a sparkling day; onto M20 before Maidstone, but now clouds are darkening + thickening + there are just a few drops of rain for 20 seconds, but sun is shining yet; few more drops about 30 miles from Dover; M20 joins A20 just after Channel Tunnel entrance; in Dover about 11:35; at 11:50 in line 210; we’re here early and will be on the 12:40 ferry instead of the 01:25 ferry; safely here + sun is shining.“
