For my first picture here after my pause in blogging, I’ve chosen one that I took in 2013 in the Cotswolds, in the picturesque little village of Lower Slaughter:

Hallo Frauke,
es war wirklich schoen da. Und wir hatten Glueck: nur wenige Touristen. Was den Namen angeht: er klingt schon schrecklich, hat aber mit „Schlachten“ nichts zu tun, sondern kommt von „slough“ bzw. „slothre“, dem alt-englischen Word fuer einen morastigen Ort. Habe ich gerade mal gegoogelt. Ich denke, das wissen selbst die meisten Englaender nicht.
Die Ortsnamen da haben es uns uebrigens immer angetan. „Upper …“ und „Lower …“ sind da ja noch einfach, und bei den „Slaughters“ gibt es auch nur zwei. Aber dann ist da noch „Upper Rissington“, „Little Rissington“, „Great Rissington“, und Wyck Rissington“. Und „Shipton-under-Wychwood“ klingt fuer mich schon fast poetisch – und auch ein wenig geheimnisvoll.

I really like this photo, Pit. A great composition of the leading line with a curve, reflections, stone houses on both sides, and just a couple of the people and the baby stroller. The HDR touch is cool!

Thanks, Amy, for the praise and this great analysis. Talking of HDR: only lately I got the programme and have taken the appropriate pictures [always a seris of three, with different exposures]. But I’ve now discovered that there’s a feature called „LDR‘, which needs just one photo only, and does something like HDR. With most of my old pictures it works and creates sometimes stunning results.

Thank you, Pit for sharing! LDR sounds easier than HDR. This photo is nicely done, but you have to have a cool original image to work with.
