My New Car – Well, Not Actually „New“

Mein Neues Auto – Nun ja, nicht unbedingt „neu“

Today we had our 15th Annual Masonic Open Car Show on the Marktplatz and of course I was there to gaze at the exhibits and to take pictures. And with this car here, I was really surprised at the price. Admittedly I had not the faintest clue as to prices for old-timers, but I still think $18,000 for this 1930 Ford A-Model really is not too much. Actually, when thinking of a new car, we did have something „a little“ different in mind, but … seeing this car I could change my mind:

Heute hatten wir unsere 15. Jährliche Offene Car Show der Freimaurer (Loge) auf dem Marktplatz und natürlich musste ich hingehen und die Ausstellungsstücke bestaunen und fotografieren. Und bei diesem Wagen hier war ich wirklich erstaunt über den Preis. Zugegeben, ich habe nicht die leiseste Ahnung von Preisen für Oldtimer, aber ich glaube dennoch, dass $18.000 für dieses Ford A-Modell aus dem Jahre 1930 wirklich nicht zuviel sind. Wenn wir an einen neuen Wagen denken, dann haben wir zwar etwas „ein klein wenig Anderes“ im Sinn, aber … wenn ich diesen Wagen hier sehe, dann könnte ich mir es doch anders überlegen:

  2. Also ich kann da wirklich auch nicht helfen ! Habe ebenfalls keine Ahnung aber ich denke der Besitzer weiß sehr wohl was er dafür verlangen kann. Also ich würde mich beim Verkauf informieren was so ein Modell wert ist egal ob Verkäufer oder Käufer !!! Problem für den Käufer ist wahrscheinlich wenn mal was kaputt geht wegen Ersatzteile ect. Das ist wirklich nur was für absolute Hobbybastler die sich mit solchen Autos auskennen. In eine Werkstatt kann man ihn vermutlich schlecht bringen !!! LG Manni

      also ich bin, sowohl was den Preis als auch die „Nachwehen“ angeht, ganz deiner Meinung. Man muss/sollte schon selber Ahnung vom „Geschaeft“ haben. Aber es gibt hierzulande auch viele Werkstaetten, die auf Oldtimer (und deren Restaurierung) spezialisiert sind. Wir haben mal bei einer nachgefragt, was eine Restaurierung von Marys 1968-er Camaro kosten wuerde. Da war die Auskunft, unter $75.000 braeuchten wir gar nicht erst anzufangen. Und das war’s dann mit unseren Gedanken an eine Restaurierung!

      1. ganz ehrlich ich musste erst mal googeln wie der Camaro 1968 aussieht. Das erste Foto gesehen und gleich erkannt. Ich fand den Trans Am den Burt Reynolds in einem Kinofilm fuhr der Hammer ! Schwarz mit goldenen Verzierungen Glaub sogar ein Adler auf der Motorhaube. Ja das sind schon tolle Autos aber der Unterhalt dementsprechend teuer und Sprit brauchen die vermutlich auch ohne Ende !!!! LG Manni

          1. eh super !!! Habe die Fotos vergrößert angeschaut und so schlimm sieht er doch gar nicht aus ! Gut der Kofferraum ist ein wenig übel den müsste man vermutlich wirklich austauschen. Evtl. findet man ja was auf einem Schrottplatz ! Was mir nicht gefällt sind die Radkappen. Da gehören Alu Räder drauf mit tollen Felgen !!!! Danke auf jedenfall für den tollen Link !!!!!

            1. An der Karosserie muesste eine Menge erneuert/restauriert werden, ausser dem Kofferraumdeckel. Und die Karre muesste total neu lackiert werden. Der Innenraum ist absolut „auf dem Hund“. Getriebe und Motor waeren wohl „nur“ zu ueberholen. Was ich aber befuerchte, ist, dass das Chassis stark verrostet ist. Na ja, wie auch immer: zumindest vorlaeufig nicht. Die Kiste steht immer noch in Karnes City in der Scheune, aber davon wird sie ja auch nicht besser.

    1. I agree, dear Klausbernd, that the maintainance would be a problem for someone like me. You really need the knowladge to do a lot yourself. There wer quite a few fantastic cars there.
      Here it’s overcast just now, and 23 degrees, but later we might get sunshine with temps rising up to 30 and above.

      1. We are just renovating another room, dear Pit. But that’s the last renovating for the next years. We hope to be finished by the end of this week.

        1. Good that the people we bought the house from had done a lot of renovation. So we won’t have to do anything for years to come. 🙂 🙂 God luck with yours.

          1. Actually, dear Pit, our living room didn’t need a renovation. But the colour scheme was a bit old fashioned. We styled it more modern following our taste now. We painted all the walls in a warm white that is changing with the light from light grey to a beige. All the woodwork like beams, window frames, skirting boards etc. we painted in a light grey which is called „Elephant’s Breath“ – funny name, isn’t it? It looks great – well, not `freakish´ any more but stylish.

            Here it started to rain about 5 hours ago. Great! Hopefully it fills all our empty water butts.

            1. Well, sometimes you need to change things, don’t you?
              „Elephant’s Breath“: I know that sometimes you find the stargest of names for quite regular products. I can imagine that your living-room now looks quite nice now. Enjoy it!
              Here, it’s raining just a little. That’s fine: saves me from working in the garden. I finally planted last year’s live Christmas tree, and I am removing the fences around two of our previous ones. There trunks are big enough in diameter now that the bucks won’t rub their horns at them any more. Now, without the (ugly) fences around them they look much better. And now I can also remover the untidy grass that hat grown inside the fences and replace it with compost and mulch. That looks really good now. But it is quite hard work. Basically taxes me to the limit. Especially loading/unloading (and carrying) the bags with the compost. Yesterday I got 15 each! But I don’t overdo things.
              Talking of rain: I saw on tyhe weather forecast [I sometimes check Wells-next-the-Sea as the nearest to Cley that I can get] that you might be in for a rainy week! Well, then you can enjoy your newly painted living-room all the more.

              1. Rain is forecasted for next week. We had half a day of light rain a couple of days ago but that didn’t fill our water butts. So everyone here is looking forward to a week of rain.
                I noticed that I am getting weaker with age. Ten years ago I could easily carry 25 kg now I am struggling with such a weight. But I don’t mind. Unfortunately our gardener left us. He is amazingly strong and liked to show how strong he is. Of course, he needed admiration.
                Dear Pit, we wish you a great day and send you lots of love, warm greetings from Dina and our Bookfayries as well. By the way, Dina is collecting one price after the other in photo competitions. She found her style as fine art photographer, well, she has a great teacher who is a brilliant fine art photographer.

                1. Dear Klausbernd,
                  I must admit – though I hate 😀 to – that I’m beginning to feel my age, too. Gardening is becoming harder. OK, can still dig the holes for trees, clear out the ground around them, and lift/carry bags of deer corn and/or compost, but not as easily as before, and I need rest more often. But like you, I don’t mind. I’m happy with what I can still do, and I always think I’m blessed. That’s what I’ve kept thinking after the rehab afte rmy stent, when at the rehab place I saw people much younger than me needing help even for a few little steps forward.
                  Thanks for telling me about Dina. I’m so happy for her. She deserves the prices. Please, give her my regards.
