We had no idea either. We didn’t actually look for such a beautiful architecture, we simply came across it on the same street as the Louisville Slugger Factory & Museum.There may be more of buildings like this on different parts of the city.
Your photo of the Carter Dry Goods store (built in 1878) brought to mind Saks‘ Fifth Avenue store (1924). To a student of architectural history, they might not seem at all alike, but they do to me. I thought of Saks because their facade has been used for years to create wonderful Christmas light shows.
