As I wrote in my other blog, „Pit’s Fritztown News„, under the title „California and Elsewhere #27: From St. George/UT to Cortez/CO„, on our drive from St. George in Utah to Cortez in Colorado we made a number of stops to admire the fantastic scenery, including at the „scenic overlook“ on Highway 89A. Here are some pictures in black and white, which I think look good because of the clouds:

Auf unserer Fahrt von St. George in Utah nach Cortez in Colorado haben wir, wie schon in meinem anderen Blog, „Pit’s Fritztown News„, unter „Kalifornien und Anderswo #27: Von St. George/Utah nach Cortez/Colorado“ geschrieben, eine ganze Reihe von Pausen gemacht, um die fantastischen Szenerien zu bewundern, unter anderem am „scenic Overlook“ auf dem Highway 89A. Dieser Punkt bot eine fantastische Aussicht auf die Vermilion Cliffs der Grand Staircase, einer Felsformation die sich vom Colorado River in Arizona bis nach Utah hinein erstreckt.

While editing my pictures for the report on my other blog, „Pit’s Fritztown News“ about the Virginia & Truckee Railway heritage train ride, I had the idea that the pictures of the old classic steam locomotive in particular would also work well for rendering in black and white and sepia might be worth while. Here are these edits:

Beim Bearbeiten meiner Bilder für den Bericht auf meinem andere Blog, „Pit’s Fritztown News“ über die Fahrt mit dem Museumszug der Virginia & Truckee Railway kam mir die Idee, dass gerade die Bilder von der alten klassischen Dampflok auch gut für eine Wiedergabe in Schwarz-Weiß und Sepia geeignet sein müssten. For this year, Roland [he of the blog „Royusch unterwegs„] has launched a weekly photo challenge in addition to his monthly photo project on the subject of „food“. This week’s subject is „landscape„. Fotoprojekt #13: „Türen, Fenster und Balkone“

Auf seinem Blog „Mannis Fotobude“ hat Manni einmal mehr zur Teilnahme an einem weiteren, seinem dreizehnten, Fotoprojekt aufgerufen, dieses Mal zum Thema „Türen, Fenster und Balkone„. Bei „Tür“ habe ich, auch wenn das von der Etymologie her nicht korrekt ist, die Assoziation von lateinisch „Porta“, und das wiederum brachte mich zu meinem Beitrag hier, von der „Porta Nigra„, dem „Schwarzen Tor“, in Trier. Und wenn schon einmal „schwarz“, dann wollte ich dieses „Tor“ auch in Schwarz-Weiss zeigen:

Photoproject #13: „Doors, Windows, and Balconies“

On his blog, „Mannis Fotobude“, Manni has again called for participation in another, this time the thirteenth, photoproject of his. Now the subject is „Doors, Windows, and Balconies„. With „door“, German „Tür“, I associate – even if that is not etymologically correct – the Latin „porta“, and that reminded me of the „Porta Nigra„, the „Black Gate“, in Trier/Germany. And then, since it is (called) „black“, why not render it in black & white:

Just now I’m writing in my other blog, „Pit’s Fritztown News: A German Expat’s Life in Fredericksburg/Texas“, about our visit to Albuquerque in 2018. Here’s a black & white rendering of clouds over the Sandia Mountains and the Albuquerque Basin, taken from the Petroglyph National Monument on the West Mesa:
