For picture #18 in my post „Aransas National Wildlife Refuge – #7: Birds [in the air]„, Werner from the blog „Vogelknipser“ kindly offered to research exactly what kind of seagull it shows, and we had agreed that in order to make it easier for him to identify the bird, I would show the original image and not my edited version [with EasyHDR], because this program intensifies the colours (too much), even if it not actually fasifies them. However, I’m adding a version edited with „Photo Director“, in which I have sharpened the image (a little) so that the details of the feathers can be seen better. As you know, the individual images can be enlarged by clicking on them.

Zu dem Bild #18 in meinem Beitrag „Aransas National Wildlife Refuge – #7: Vögel [in der Luft]“ hatte Werner vom Blog „Vogelknipser“ sich freundlicherweise angeboten, einmal genau zu recherchieren, um was für eine Möwe es sich da handelt, und wir waren übereingekommen, dass ich, um ihm die Bestimmung zu erleichtern, hier das Originalbild zeige, und nicht meine Bearbeitung mit EasyHDR, weil dieses Programm die Farben, wenn nicht unbedingt verfälscht, so aber doch (zu sehr) intensiviert. Ich füge allerdings eine Bearbeitung per „Photo Director“ hinzu, in der ich das Bild (etwas) nachgeschärft habe, damit die Zeichnung der Federn besser erkennbar wird. Die Einzelbilder lassen sich übrigens per Anklicken vergrößern.

Evening Clouds (Admittedly Over-Dramatized)

For a short while, we had some great clouds in the sky over our back yard. The „EasyHDR“ software – I must admit – made them look way more dramatic than how they appeared to the naked eye. But I like the way they turned out:

My last post here, of an Egret flying over the San Antonio River, was a cropped version of one rendered with EasyHDR from an original I had at first deemed so bad that I came close to deleting it. Here are the two versions for comparison:

Mein letzter Beitrag hier, von einem Silberreiher über dem San Antonio River, war eine Ausschnittvergrößerung von einem mit EasyHDR bearbeiteten Original, dass mir so schlecht vorkam, dass ich es schon löschen wollte. Hier sind die beiden Versionen zum Vergleich:

The problem with the original: it was against the sun and somewhat underexposed. Here are the pertaining Exif-Data:

Das Problem mit dem Original: es war gegen die Sonne fotografiert und reichlich unterbelichtet. Hier sind die relevanten Exif-Daten:

Actually, as the original picture was just one and not three or more with different exposures, it’s not „real“ HDR but „only“ LDR. Still, I find the result quite astonishing.

Genau genommen ist es kein „richtiges“ HDR sondern, da das Original nur ein einziges Bild war und nicht eine Serie von drei oder mehr Bildern mit unterschiedlicher Belichtung, „nur“ LDR. Dennoch finde ich das Resultat ganz erstaunlich.

Photoprojekt Panoramabilder – September

Auch für September hat Roland [Danke, lieber Roland, für Deine Anregungen: es macht Spass!] von „Royusch-unterwegs“ wieder zu einem neuen Beitrag für sein Fotoprojekt „Panoramabilder“ aufgerufen. Hier ist nun mein Beitrag, eine Panorama-Ansicht über eine Teils des Pedernales River State Parks [Texas Hill Country], aufgenommen vom Aussichtspunkt nahe des Parkbüros am Eingang des Parks aus. Da Roland in seinem Beitrag sowohl das unbeschnittene Original als auch das beschnittene Bild gezeigt hat, kam ich auf die Idee, das auch hier zu tun. Die Einzelbilder wurden mit einer Nikon D500 gemacht, und dann mit „Photo Stitcher“ [Einstellung „Warp Spherical“] zusammengesetzt. Das Resultat wurde mit EasyHDR [Einstellung „natural2“] überarbeitet, und dann mit ACDsee Ultimate9 beschnitten und etwas abgedunkelt.

Zum Vergleich habe ich hier zusätzlich noch eine Panorama-Aufnahme hinzugefügt, die ich mit der Panorama-Funktion meines Handys [Samsung S9+] von derselben Stelle auch gemacht habe, ebenfalls mit EasyHDR [Einstellung „enhance3“] bearbeitet.

[Gerade bei diesen Panoramabilder finde ich es (fast) unumgänglich, sie in höherer Auflösung anzusehen. Dazu zuerst auf das Bild hier klicken und dann noch einmal mit der Lupe.]

Photoproject Panorama Pictures – September

For the month of September, too, Roland [Thank you, Roland, for your suggestions: it’s great fun!] of the „Royusch-unterwegs“ blog has again called for a new contribution for his photo project „Panorama Pictures“. Now here is my post, a panoramic view of part of the Pedernales River State Park [Texas Hill Country], taken from the lookout near the park office at the park entrance. Since Roland showed both the uncut original and the cropped image in his contribution, I got the idea to do the same here. The single images were taken with a Nikon D500 and then stitched together with „Photo Stitcher“ [setting „Warp Spherical“]. The result was revised with EasyHDR [setting „natural2“], and then trimmed with ACDsee Ultimate9 and darkened a little.

For comparison, I have also added a panorama shot, which I took from the same location with the panorama function of my mobile phone [Samsung S9 +], also edited with EasyHDR [setting „enhance3“].

[Especially with these panorama pictures I find it (almost) inevitable to view them in higher resolution. To do so, first click on the picture here and then again with the magnifying glass.]

When, on my other blog, „Pit’s Fritztown News„, we exchanged ideas about rendering/editing pictures, Nati – of „Natis Gartentraum“ – asked me to show an unedited picture togther with a rendition with EasyHDR side by side. Here’s one, from our visit to Sedona in autumn last year. I think it’s a very spectacular one as fas as the changes made by the programme go:

Als wir, in meinem anderen Blog, „Pit’s Fritztown News“, Ideen über das Bearbeiten/Verändern von Fotos ausgetauscht haben, hat Nati – von „Natis Gartentraum“ – mich gebeten, einmal ein unbearbeitetes Bild und die Bearbeitung mit EasyHDR gegenüberzustellen. Hier ist dann ein Beispiel, von unserer Reise nach Sedona im Herbst des vergangenen Jahres. Ich glaube, es zeigt ganz spektakulär die Veränderungen durch das Programm:

Rendered with EasyHDR, setting „enhance5“. Of course, as this is based on just one picture, it is not actually „true“ HDR [High Dynamic Range], but „only“ LDR [Low Dynamic Range]. Other examples, among them „true HDR“, based on three pictures with different exposueres, will follow here. But I find it quite remarkable how many details the programme is capable of getting out of a really flat single original. It is, of course, debatable, if the much enhanced contrast is still ok and matches what the human eye would have seen. I’m sorry, but I can’t remember.

Bearbeitet mit EasyHDR, Einstellung „enhance5“. Das hier, da es nur auf einem einzigen Originalbild beruht, ist natürlich kein „echtes“ HDR [High Dynamic Range], sondern „nur“ LDR [Low Dynamic Range]. Weitere Beispiele, darunter „echtes“ HDR, basierend auf drei Fotos mit unterschiedlichen Belichtungen, werden hier noch folgen. Ich finde es aber ganz bemerkenswert, was das Programm an Details schon aus einem einzigen Bild herausarbeiten kann. Man kann allerdings darüber streiten, ob der stark erhöhte Kontrast noch tragbar ist und dem entspricht, was das menschliche Auge wahrgenommen hat. Ich kann mich leider nicht mehr daran erinnern.

Will Mount Doom Be There Just Across That Ridge?

When I was editing my pictures of our Jeep tour from Sedona up the Mogollon Rim last autumn, my EasyHDR editing-programme came up – among many others – with this suggestion here, the rendering of which it called „special effect 2“. Even if that was definitely not what I was looking for, I still think it worthwhile showing. It really reminds me of some images from „Lord of the Rings„.

Liegt Mount Doom gleich hinter diesem Bergrücken?

Als ich dabei war, meine Bilder von unserer Jeep Tour im vergangenen Herbst von Sedona aus den Mogollon Rim hinauf zu bearbeiten, stellte mir mein EasyHDR-Bildbearbeitungsprogramm – unter vielen anderen – auch diese Bearbeitung zur Auswahl, unter dem Titel „special effect 2“. Auch wenn das nun wirklich nicht das war, was ich eigentlich beabsichtigt hatte, so scheint es mir dennoch hier zeigenswert. Es erinnert mich wirklich an manche Bilder aus „Lord of the Rings„.

Mount Doom?

For those who are interested, some exif-data here:

• focal length: 10mm
• shutter sped: 1/160 s

The above data are the same for all the three pictures I took with the bracketing function of the camera. The f-stop, though, varied, and with it the eV-value:

• f/5 = -0.33 eV
• f/6.3 = -1.00 eV
• f/4 = +0.33 eV

The three pictures were composed into one with, I said before, with EasyHDR, using the programme’s suggestion „special effect 2“.

Für Alle, die an den technischen Daten dieses Bilds interessiert sind:

Diese Daten sind für alle drei Bilder, die als Grundlagen der Bearbeitung dienten, gleich. Geändert hat sich bei der Reihenaufnahme die Blendenöffnung und damit auch der Belichtungskorrekturwert eV:

• f/5 = -0,33 eV:
• f/6,3 = – 1,00 eV
• f/4 = +0,33 ev

Alle drei Bilder wurden dann, wie schon gesagt, mit Hilfe von EasyHDR in der Einstellung „special effect 2“ zu einem einzigen Bild überlagert,

Photoproject Panorama Pictures – Mai

Again „Royusch – unterwegs“ has asked for new contributions to his Photoproject Panorama Pictures. Here’s my contribution, the Hackberry General Store on Route 66. So, „Get Your Kicks on Route 66“ here, with my favourite Country & Western Band, Asleep at the Wheel!

Für dieses Bild wurde das Original mit EasyHDR und Inpaint überarbeitet. Das Original, mit der Kamera meines Samsung S9+ im Panorama-Modus aufgenommen, hat einige Unzulänglichkeiten, wie auf dem Original [siehe unten] deutlich zu sehen. Den dunklen Schatten etwa in der Bildmitte [was auch immer den verursacht haben könnte ist mir ein Rätsel] habe ich mit Inpaint eliminieren können. aber die Figur der jungen Dame in der rechten Bildhälfte ist immer noch doppelt zu sehen, und der junge Mann links von ihr ist ziemlich deutlich verzerrt.

For this picture the original has been worked over with EasyHDR and Inpaint. The original, taken with the camera of my Samsung S9+, definitely has some imperfections, clearly to be seen in the original below. I’ve been able to get rid of the dark shadow in the middle [whatever caused it baffles me] with Inpaint, but that young lady in the right half of the picture still shows up double, and the body of that young guy to the left of her clearly is distorted.
