On our boat tour to see the Whooping Cranes in the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge we left the marina in Lamar in the dark, before sunrise, and then „parked“ the boat at an artificial island created by the Army Corps of Engineers with stuff they dredged up from the Intracoastal Waterway, to wait for the sun to rise. Next to us was the „Black Jack“ the second boat of the „Aransas Bay Birding Charters„:

Für unsere Bootstour zu den Schreikranichen im Aransas National Wildlife Refuge sind wir schon im Dunkeln, noch vor Sonnenaufgang, in der Marina in Lamar losgefahren und haben dann das Boot an einer künstlichen Insel „geparkt“, die vom Army Corps of Engineers mit Material aufgeschüttet worden ist, das man aus dem Intracoastal Waterway gebaggert hat, und wir haben da auf den Sonnenaufgang gewartet. Ganz in unserer Nähe lag die „Black Jack“, das zweite Boot von „Aransas Bay Birding Charters„.

Back Yard, Early Morning, with Snow

Friday night we had our first snow of the year [of many years, actually], and this is what our back yard looked like in the early morning sunshine:

Freitagnacht hatten wir unseren ersten Schnee in diesem Jahr [in vielen Jahren, um genau zu sein], und so sah der Garten hinter unserem Haus im Sonnenlicht des frühen Morgens aus:

Not that it amounted to anything much, but we still enjoyed the snow.

Nicht dass es viel gewesen wäre, aber uns hat der Schnee trotzdem sehr gefallen.

Before Sunrise in Our Garden

This morning, I happened to be up early and caught a few shots in our garden before sunrise, with the moon and the morning star still up in the sky, while the first pink colours were just showing up. It’s amazing, though, how much detail the camera catches. There’s plenty in this picture – after enhancing it, of course – which I had not been able to see with the naked eye, e.g. the deer in the foreground, to the left, or the hills further up Lower Crabapple Road just showing through the trees on the left.
