For March again, Roland [of the „Royusch-unterwegs“ blog] has called for a new contribution to his photo project on the subject of „Food“. In the announcement for this photo project it says that the picture should match the month, but it says „should“ and not „must“. Therefore I take the liberty of putting one here that has no relation to any month at all, a picture of the counter with „Kolaches“ in „Hruska’s Bakery“ in Ellinger/Texas:
Rolands monatliches Fotoprojekt „Nahrung“ – März 2021
Auch für März hat Roland von „Royusch-unterwegs“ wieder zu einem neuen Beitrag für sein Fotoprojekt zum Thema „Nahrung“ aufgerufen. In der Ausschreibung zu diesem Fotoprojekt heißt es zwar, das Bild sollte zum Monat passen, aber es heißt eben „sollte“ und nicht „muss“. Daher erlaube ich mir, hier Eines einzustellen, das keinen Bezug zu irgendeinem Monat überhaupt hat, ein Bild von der Theke mit „Kolaches“ in „Hruska’s Bakery“ in Ellinger/Texas:
I took this picture – by the way, it only shows a very small part of the „Goodies“ – when we passed through Ellinger on our way back from Galveston in 2018 and stopped at Hruska’s. „Hruska’s“ was opened in 1912 by Frank J. Hruska as a „general store“ on the main street of Ellinger and at times included not only an ambulance, but even a funeral home. It’s good that this is no longer the case these days. Otherwise one might get silly ideas about the effects of their food offerings. Later [1947] it was moved to Highway 87 and is now essentially a bakery, but also offers hamburgers and other small warm dishes.
Dieses Bild – es zeigt übrigens nur einen ganz kleinen Teil der „Goodies“ – habe ich aufgenommen, als wir 2018 auf dem Rückweg von Galveston durch Ellinger gekommen sind und bei Hruska’s Station gemacht haben. „Hruska’s“ wurde im Jahr 1912 von Frank J. Hruska als „General Store“ an der Hauptstraße von Ellinger eröffnet und schloss zeitweise nicht nur eine Ambulanz, sondern sogar ein Bestattungsunternehmen ein. Gut, dass das heutzutage nicht mehr so ist. Man könnte ja sonst wegen der Auswirkungen ihres Essenswarenangebots auf dumme Gedanken kommen. Später [1947] wurde es dann an den Highway 87 verlegt und ist heutzutage im Wesentlichen eine Bäckerei, bietet aber auch z.B. Hamburger und andere kleine warme Speisen an.
Kolaches, introduced by Czech settlers, are a kind of sweet pastry made from yeast dough, with various fillings, often fruit, but also cream cheese. They are particularly popular in Texas.
Kolaches sind von tschechischen Siedlern eingeführte Teigwaren aus einem Hefeteig mit verschiedenen – oft Obst, aber auch Frischkäse – Füllungen, die sich insbesondere in Texas einer großen Beliebtheit erfreuen.
