Roland’s Weekly Photo Challenge #34 [2021-10-17]

For this year, Roland [he of the blog „Royusch unterwegs„] has launched a weekly photo challenge in addition to his monthly photo project on the subject of „food“. This week’s subject is „Boat“. I took this picture of a steam-powered narrowboat with a „butty boat“, that is a narrowboat without an engine, in tow, in 2011 on a narrowboat tour of English canals and rivers, on one of my best, if not THE best ever, holidays in England on a canal on the outskirts of Birmingham:

Für dieses Jahr hat Roland [vom Blog „Royusch unterwegs„] neben seinem monatlichen Fotoprojekt zum Thema „Nahrung“ auch eine wöchentliche Fotochallenge ins Leben gerufen. Für diese Woche ist das Thema „Boot“. Dieses Bild, ein dampfgetriebenes Narrowboat mit einem „Butty Boat“ [ein Narrowboat ohne eigenen Antrieb] im Schlepp, habe ich 2011 bei einer Narrowboat-Tour auf englischen Kanälen und Flüssen, einem meiner schönsten – wenn nicht DEM schönsten – Englandurlaube auf einem Kanal in den Außenbezirken von Birmingham aufgenommen:

Just in Time …

… for this week’s [as of April 18] photo challenge #13 on Roland’s [„Royusch Unterwegs„] blog on the subject of „unten“ I remembered some kind of „aerial“ photos of our old place in Karnes City, taken when – in 2010 – I demolished our old barn there. Here’s one, taken from the top of the old barn:

Gerade noch rechtzeitig …

… für Rolands [„Royusch unterwegs„] Foto-Challenge #13 von dieser Woche [18. April] zum Thema „unten“ habe ich mich an alte Fotos – fast so etwas wie Luftaufnahmen – unseres alten Hauses und Grundstücks in Karnes City erinnert, die ich gemacht habe, als ich im Sommer 2010 unsere alte Scheune dort abgerissen habe. Hier ist nun ein Foto, dass ich vom Dach dieser alten Scheune aus aufgenommen habe:

The Old Place from Above the Old Barn

The view is approximately to the north, towards Highway 181, which, however, cannot be seen here. In the front left can be seen the corral with the old cattle trough, on the right about in the middle of the picture a metal shed [which is still standing today], further towards the house then the old garage, which we had had demolished during the renovation of the house because it was slowly but surely falling apart by itself, in front of it – under a tarpaulin – the old Camaro, and behind this garage our old house. The picture shows roughly the part of the property that we still own after selling around two thirds.

Der Blick geht etwa nach Norden, in Richtung auf Highway 181, der aber hier nicht zu sehen ist. Vorne links ist der Korral mit dem alten Viehtrog zu sehen, rechts ungefähr in der Bildmitte ein Metallschuppen [der auch heutzutage immer noch steht], weiter Richtung Haus dann die alte Garage, die wir während der Renovierung des Hauses haben abreißen lassen, weil sie langsam aber sicher von selbst in sich zusammenfiel, davor – unter einer Plane – der alte Camaro, und hinter dieser Garage eben unser altes Haus. Das Bild zeigt so ungefähr den Teil des Grundstücks, den wir auch nach dem Verkauf von etwa zwei Dritteln immer noch haben.

Roland’s Weekly Photo Challenge [2021-02-28]

For this year, besides his once-a-month photo project „Food“, Roland [of the „Royusch Unterwegs“ blog] has started a weekly photo challenge. For this week, the subject is „Wachsen„, which, as Roland explained, can have two different meanings in German, as can its etymologically related equivalent „to wax“ in English, viz. „to grow“ and „to apply (bee’s) wax„. I decided on the first meaning, with a picture – from our garden – of a suckling fawn. The little one really still needs to grow. Incidentally, the picture would also – almost – fit into Roland’s monthly photo challenge „Food„, if it weren’t for the (additional) definition „Everything a person needs to live on„.

Rolands wöchentliche Fotochallenge [28.02.2021]

Für dieses Jahr hat Roland [vom Blog „Royusch unterwegs„] neben seinem allmonatlichen Fotoprojekt zum Thema „Nahrung“ auch eine wöchentliche Fotochallenge ins Leben gerufen. Für diese Woche ist das Thema „Wachsen“. Wie Roland schon erläutert hat, kann „wachsen“ im Deutschen ja zwei Bedeutungen haben: „größer werden“ und „Wachs auftragen“. Ich habe mich für die erste entschieden, mit einem Bild – aus unserem Garten – von einem säugenden Rehkitz. Das Kleine muss wirklich noch wachsen. Das Bild würde im Übrigen auch – fast – zu Rolands monatlicher Fotochallenge „Nahrung“ passen, wenn es denn da nicht hieße „Alles, was der Mensch zum Leben braucht“.

Words Can Way Too Easily Lead to Hatred

We all know by now, and that now only after January 6, that those false accusations can so easily lead to violence. Words are powerful. Let’s all be careful how we use them.

Wir alle wissen nun, und das nicht nur seit dem 6. Januar, dass solche falschen Anschuldigungen zu Gewalt führen können. Worte sind machtvoll. Seien wir Alle vorsichtig mir unseren Äußerungen.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Nostalgic

Als ich las, dass das Thema der „Weekly Photo Challenge“ auf WordPress dieses Mal „nostalgic“ sein sollte, kam mir als erstes unsere alte Scheune in den Sinn, die wir leider abreißen mussten, weil sie zu baufällig geworden war, um sie noch restaurieren zu können, und um Platz für eine neue Garage zu schaffen. [Wie immer, klicken auf ein Bilder Galerie öffnet diese, und von da aus kann man jedes Bild auch in voller Auflösung ansehen.]

When I read that the subject of this week’s weekly photo challenge was to be „nostalgic“ what came up to my mind first was our old barn, which, unfortunately, we had to tear down as it had become too delapidated to repair, and since we needed that spot for a new garage. [As ususal, clicking on any one picture in the galleries opens this respective gallery, and then you can go on an view the single pictures at full resolution, too.]

Was mir aber natürlich auch in den Sinn kam, war meine alte Heimatstadt Linn, mit meinem Geburtshaus, den wunderschön restaurierten alten Gebäuden und der Burg.

What, naturally, also sprang up in my mind were childhood memories of Linn, my hometown, with the house I was born in, the wonderfully restored old houses, and the castle.

Nostalgisch Sehenswertes gibt es auch in unserer Nachbarstadt Helena, im dortigen Museum.

Nostalgic sights are to be found, too, in the neighbouring town of Helena, at their museum.

Und zuguterletzt kam mir dann auch noch das Eisenbahnmuseum bei Denver/CO in den Sinn.

And – last but not least – I was also reminded of the railroad museum near Denver/CO.
