… a veritable downpour:
„Unser“ Bach am „Tag Danach“, …
nach einem veritablen Wolkenbruch:
It was only after moving here to our place in Fredericksburg/TX that I really got to know and realize what „flash flood“ actually means, that is, that this usually bone-dry creek [here it is shown on a day after a downpour] can rise about 6 feet and more in a matter of minutes and become a raging torrent. But then, it also subsides again quickly – all too quickly to my liking, because I would love to see and hear the water gurgling over the rocks. You can see the floodline in the grass on the left. The dead tree trunk about in the middle of the picture, next to the ashe juniper bush, was submerged – as were the roots of this bush.
Es war erst, nachdem ich hier an unseren Wohnort in Fredericksburg/Texas umgezogen war, dass mir wirklich aufgegangen ist, was „flash flood“ [Sturzflut] wirklich bedeutet, dass nämlich ein Bach wie der „unsere“ [hier im Bild einen Tag nach einer solchen Sturzflut] in wenigen Minuten um glatt zwei Meter anschwellen und zu einem reißenden Wildbach werden kann. Aber das Wasser geht auch sehr schnell wieder zurück – viel zu schnell meiner Meinung nach, weil ich es liebend gerne über die Felsen gurgeln sehen und hören würde. Im Bild hier kann man übrigens gut links im Bild auf halber Höhe im Gras die Linie der höchsten Flut erkennen. Der tote Baumstamm etwa in der Bildmitte war übrigens unter Wasser, ebenso wie der Fuß des Ashe Juniper Buschs dort.

In a way yes, in a way no. On the one hand we really don’t need that torrent for any longer period of time, but on the other hand I’d really wish the water would run longer, a few days at a time at least – just gurgling over those rocks.
