Dear readers, in case you read my other blog, „Pit’s Fritztown News„, you will know that I’m experiencing problems there: some (or all) of y readers seem unable to comment there. So I’d like to ask you a favour:
- If you haven’t visited that blog recently, please go there, and try to leave a comment under the post „Communication Test„, e.g. „comment possible“. If that works, fine, and nothing else will be required.
- If you can’t leave a comment on that blog, please return here and let me know of that.
- It is not necessary to let me know that comments here work.
Thanks for you help: much appreciated.
Danke für Ihre sehr geschätzte Hilfe.
Ein schöner Beitrag, gerne gelesen. Danke!

When I try to leave a comment on your other blog WP wants me to log in, even though I’m already logged in, as WP obviously recognizes as I leave this comment half a minute after trying to leave the one on your other blog.

Thanks, Steve, for your comment. I’ve not yet been able to figure out the intricacies of WP. Hopefully, I’ll be able to solve the problem soon. I don’t want my readers to get frustrated.

I got trapped in the same cycle of log in screens as other commenters.

I still have to figure out if it was me or WordPress who created that mischief.

I cannot comment on your other blog – the link is not working. I scrolled down to the bottom but couldn’t do it that way either. K

I’m sorry about that glitch, Kerry. Just now it looks like commenting in that bog is only possible via the reader.

No problem, Pit. I think I often comment by the reader. Perhaps it is a small coding glitch, that you could identify from the WordPress Desktop?

I rarely use the reader.

I cannot comment on your other blog, Pit. There is a requirement for me to log in to comment. Perhaps you have inadvertently set up some kind of requirement on your comments settings.

It is a weird log in too.

Maybe WP learned from the slogan „Keep Austin weird“. 😀

I hope it gets fixed somehow.

Lieber Pit,

Klausbernd 🙂

Well, the blog is „wpcomstaging(dot)“ and not „wordpress(dot)com“. It requires me „You must log in to post a comment.“ The link ends up in a JetPack login to a wordpress(dot)com account …

Thanks, Emil, for this really valuable help. To me, that seems to get to the root of the problem. But … why has this started only a few days ago? I’ve been using „wpstaging(dot)“ for more than a year now, and my readers have never experienced that problem. I’d been forced into that subdomain, btw, when I installed a plug-in to get back to the classic editor. But anyway: I hope that with your remark here I can do something or that WP can help me.

Yeah – that classic editor issue was one of those issues which lead me to self hosted WP(dot)org.
Is it possible, that using JetPack installed a permanent forwarding? Maybe since/with the latest update? (Redirecting/forwarding could seriously be a result of hacking. On the other hand wpstaging couldn’t be found by whois …)

Actually, I was premature with that plug-in. Soon after installing it I got to get used to Gutenberg more and more and would not have needed it at all. I was told, before installing that plug-in, that my blog would be moved to a subdomain, but I was not warned that it could not be moved back, even if I de-installed the plug-in. So now I’m stuck with „wpstaging“.
What I’ll be going to try some time soon is to uncheck the box „commenters have to be logged in and registered“ in my settings. Maybe that will help. I’ll have to see, though if I get more spam comments then. There have been a very few only lately.

I cannot post a comment on your other blog. It asks me to input my password but it seems to want a password to your account. Anyway, I put mine in, then it takes me to another wp site where I’m asked to do so again which I do, then after all the clicks and saves it says it doesn’t recognise my password! Over to you.

Hi Mary,
Thanks for your help. So, if I understand you correctly, you were asked to log in to WP even if you already were, right. As I said to Linda, in the past that has happened to me, too, sometimes. I then had to access/open my own blog first. Strange are the ways of WordPress. 🙂
Best,
Pit

Thanks, Linda. I’ve had that same problem a while ago with my comments on (some) other blogs. I could „like“ a blog post but not comment. At that time and with me, it often helped to log in to my own blog (again). And sometimes it was just a matter of time until a new update by WP seemed to have addressed that problem. I hope I can figure a solution out soon.
